DISTRICT 540 – Heartland graduate and former Student Trustee, Joshua
Crockett, has announced his candidacy for Heartland Community
College Board of Trustees.
Joshua’s campaign will focus on how we can create an inclusive and
equitable campus for all students, bolster career and technical
education, and spend taxpayer dollars wisely—all while keeping
tuition costs affordable for students.
“What the people of central Illinois need the most is a path to
economic security and mobility, and that’s exactly what I believe
Heartland Community College has the potential to be for us all,”
Crockett said. He added, “We have everything we need right here to
build a community, local economy, and workforce that helps everyday
people get ahead and stay ahead.”

We can create an inclusive and equitable campus for all learners that expands
the definition of who a student is. Heartland is uniquely positioned to create
an innovative educational experience focused on expanded vocational training and
technical education that can act as a path to economic opportunity for all
people.
Crockett is a Heartland graduate and current senior at ISU with plans to pursue
a graduate degree. Crockett previously served as Heartland’s Student Body
President and Student Trustee where he was able to represent his student body on
the national level, helped lowered the cost of textbooks, and expanded the power
and voice students have on campus. He has since worked in ISU’s Center for Civic
Engagement where he focused on student participation in the 2020 Census and
November election.
The election will be held on April 6, 2021.
