New Robotics Operator program begins at Heartland Community College

 

[December 18, 2020]   Beginning this upcoming January, Heartland Community College students will have the opportunity to learn how to repair and install advanced automation equipment, including robotic operations.

Heartland’s Robotics Operator Microcertificate program launches in the Spring 21 semester. The Robotic Operator Microcertificate is fashioned for those looking to enter the manufacturing field or to dive further into it. This could include incumbent workers with 1-3 years’ experience in manufacturing, new students with developing interest and possible prior experience, current students in industrial tech, and displaced workers.

The Robotics Operator program is just one of three new programs targeted toward modern vocational training. This past year, the College launched the office of Pathways and Work Ready Program Development. This unit is responsible for developing programs that can be completed in one year or less and allow individuals to receive training in career and vocational programs – that can lead to employment in a relatively short period of time.

In the Fall 2020 semester, Heartland saw the debut of two other programs: Automation Technology Skills Certificate and High Voltage Battery Technology Microcertificate.

“We’re excited to work hand-in-hand with local industry to identify how our programs should change and evolve and what industry trends are coming down the line,” said Curt Rendall, Heartland’s Executive Director of Work Ready Program Development and Innovation. “Some students might move directly into the workforce with these certifications, but as the credits are designed to be ‘stackable,’ meaning they can count toward future coursework for students seeking a degree.” 

Heartland offers 42 Work Ready Career and Technical stackable certificates leading to immediate careers or building towards an Associate’s degree. Prospective students who are interested in Work Ready programs may be eligible for a number of scholarship opportunities.
