The Chiefs Kingdom Champions Parade will begin
at 12:30 p.m. ET, and festivities will conclude with a rally at
Union Station beginning about two hours later.
Schools throughout the Kansas City metro area began canceling
classes for the day to allow students to attend.
"For the first time in 50 years, our Kansas City Chiefs are
bringing home the Vince Lombardi trophy, and we're all excited
to celebrate with our players and fans," Kansas City Mayor
Quinton Lucas said in a news release. He added via Twitter that
he wanted to see "ALL of #ChiefsKingdom there."
A rally for the Kansas City Royals, following their 2015 World
Series title, drew an estimated 800,000 to the site of
Wednesday's planned Chiefs gathering.
The Chiefs rallied in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's game
to defeat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20. It was their first
Super Bowl win -- and appearance -- since Super Bowl IV in 1970.
