Austin Davis added nine points off the bench
and Jon Teske chipped in six points and a team-high eight
rebounds for Michigan (15-9 overall, 6-7 Big Ten). The
Wolverines have won four of their last five games following a
four-game losing streak.
Jared Jones had 12 points and Miller Kopp supplied 10 for the
last-place Wildcats (6-17, 1-12). A.J. Turner added nine points
for Northwestern, which has dropped eight consecutive games.
The Wolverines shot 46.9 percent from the field and limited the
Wildcats to 32.2 percent shooting. Michigan also controlled the
lane, out-rebounding Northwestern 45-32 and outscoring the
Wildcats 42-22 in the paint.
Northwestern was up 13-6 in the early going but Michigan then
assumed command. The Wolverines took the lead with 10 unanswered
points, capped by a Franz Wagner 3-pointer.
A string of 13 consecutive Michigan points a short time later
made it 33-18. Davis started that run with a layup, and Teske
finished it off with a dunk.
A Kopp jumper ended that outburst. Livers converted a layup in
the final minute to give Michigan the 38-23 lead at halftime.
The Wolverines reeled off 10 unanswered points early in the
second half to make it 48-25. Livers scored in the lane and
Teske had another dunk. Zavier Simpson, Wagner and Teske made
layups to complete that outburst.
A Jones layup ended Northwestern's scoring drought.
Northwestern showed some signs of life midway through the half
with an 11-2 run that included five points from Kopp. That cut
the Wolverines' lead to 12 points at 58-46.
Brooks then hit a 3-pointer, and the Wildcats couldn't muster
another run.
