Barbara Stroud-Borth came to Mount Pulaski in
2007 in search of a house to call home. While visiting, she found
herself not only a home but also a purpose. Barbara toured the Mount
Pulaski courthouse and fell in love. She knew instantly she wanted
to be a part of the volunteer staff for the courthouse.

Barbara was an active volunteer starting in 2007.
She volunteered many hours giving tours and assisting the Site
Manager then, Wally Kautz, with various tasks and events.
When Wally retired in 2015, Barbara was willing and ready to take
over as Site Manager. Barbara used her vast knowledge to enrich the
basic courthouse tour further.
One of Barbara’s fondest memories that she will forever treasure was
when author and Lincoln Scholar, Guy Fraker, brought several
individuals to the courthouse for a tour. Fraker told Barbara that
her tour was “the best tour he had ever been to.”
Barbara has planned many wonderful events and been a part of
numerous celebrations at the courthouse.
One of her favorites was Lincoln’s Birthday party held a few years
ago. Barbara planned a wonderful party that Lincoln would have
loved. “Mentor Graham” came and spoke about his experiences with
Lincoln. Children were invited to practice their penmanship with a
quill pen and use a real oscillator to send messages in Morse Code.
Jane Pharis was also in attendance with many of her family members,
who are direct descendants of Mentor Graham. Guest enjoyed authentic
apple pie with rum sauce, which was Lincoln’s favorite dessert.

With Barbara’s assistance, the Mount Pulaski Courthouse
Foundation was able to raise necessary funds for many large-scale restoration
projects.
On February 29th, Barbara will work her last shift as Site Manager.
Barbara plans to take more time to enjoy life in her retirement. She also plans
to work on putting her many life experiences into writing for herself and many
others to enjoy.
On Saturday, February 29th, from noon to 4 p.m., the Mount Pulaski Courthouse
Foundation will celebrate Barbara’s many years of service, dedication and hard
work. All are welcome to attend.
