In conjunction with the February celebration
of the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln, Judge Jonathan Wright
delivered a program to local grade school students based on the
popular children’s book by Martha Brenner, Abe Lincoln’s Hat.

Judge Wright delivered the program to
Washington-Monroe Elementary School, Zion Lutheran School (Lincoln),
Carroll Catholic School, Central (Lincoln) Elementary School,
New-Holland-Middletown School, Hartsburg-Emden Elementary School,
Mt. Pulaski Elementary School, Chester-East Lincoln School, and the
Lincoln Public Library.
A project of the Illinois Judges Association, the reading program is
aimed at children in grades K-4 to encourage the appreciation, the
value, and the enjoyment of reading. Judges make a classroom
appearance, read the book, and discuss its intersection with history
and the law. The book is then donated.

“It was a great experience for me to meet the children of Logan
County in a classroom setting. I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the classes
and teachers. The students were very attentive and asked excellent questions,”
said Judge Wright.
The Illinois Judges Association is a membership organization of 1,250 active and
retired judges whose purpose is to foster public confidence in the independence
of the judiciary, provide services and education to its members, and information
about court operations to the public. Funding for the books was made possible by
a grant from the Illinois Judges Foundation.
