Logan County Sheriff's Office:
Be aware of spam text messages
Send a link to a friend
[January 23, 2020]
Sheriff Mark Landers has been made aware of spam text messages
citizens are receiving. The text messages come from different area
codes and numbers and provide a link to click on.
The most common of the text messages appears as though it is from
FEDEX. The text message will say something to the effect of:
“Hello, your FEDEX package with tracking code (set of
numbers/letters) is waiting for you to set delivery preferences”.
[to top of second column] |
There is then a link provided which is not a real link but rather a scam that
has been found to attach malware to the device that opened it allowing people to
become the victims of fraud and identity theft.
If you are anticipating something from FEDEX you can go to their website or call
their customer service at 1-800-463-3339. If you believe you have been the
victim of fraud or identity theft please call Logan Dispatch and request to
speak with Law Enforcement about it.
