Thursday night at Roy S.
Anderson Gymnasium featured a non-conference matchup with the
Lincoln Railers and the Washington Panthers. While the Railers
easily handled the Panthers 70-43 on the court, much of the focus
was off the court.
The night's proceeds included donations, t-shirt sales and a 50-50
raffle in memory of Washington Panthers coach Kevin Brown, who lost
his battle with Glioblastoma on June 11, 2019 at the age of 50.
Coach Neil Alexander shared a friendship with Brown and his wife,
Jodi.
A statement from Coach Alexander was read to the crowd before the
game. [See speech separate below this article.]
On the court it was the Railers running out to a quick 9-0 lead to
start the game.
That would escalate to a 15-3 lead after Landon Hullinger chose to
sink consecutive threes. Lincoln’s man in the middle stepped out to
the corner by the Washington bench to connect for his first one and
then on the next possession Hullinger decided to pop out to the
opposite corner and hit another three.
Kameron Whiteman would sink a three for Lincoln with 1:14 showing on
the clock and that would give the Railers an 18-3 lead that stuck as
the first quarter ended in the blink of an eye.
The second quarter flew by just as fast and after Dylan Singleton
hit back-to-back threes the Railers lead was 26-6. A couple more
Lincoln threes coupled with some two-point field goals allowed the
Railers a comfortable 36-21 lead at the half.
With the Railers in a groove raining threes in the first half, they
didn’t miss a beat to start the second half. Kaden Froebe began the
third quarter with a three for Lincoln.
Singleton continued to be on fire from beyond the arc as well.
After the quick hands of Will Ewald stole the ball twice, it was
Lincoln doubling-up on the Panthers with a 52-26 lead just midway
through the third quarter.
Field goals from Froebe and Singleton finished out the third quarter
on a rather quiet note and Lincoln dominated to the tune of 56-35
over the Panthers.
Coach Alexander brought in some of his bench for most of the fourth
quarter and it was still pretty much the same story.
Adam Grunder hit two threes for the Railers, nothing but net from
the smooth junior.
Kameron Whiteman poured in six points in the lane for Lincoln, as
one of the only starters to stay on the court and run the show.

Seth Tungate also dropped in two points in the lane in the quarter.
Lincoln ran through the motions pretty quickly in this game and with
the early start, everyone was shaking hands around 8:15 p.m. and the
final was 70-43.
Kameron Whiteman led Lincoln with 17 points. Dylan Singleton made
his 16 points look fairly easy on this night as he hit four threes
for the Railers. Kaden Froebe tossed in 12 points for Lincoln.
Lincoln improves to 17-2 on the season.
In the JV contest Lincoln held on to win 29-26 over Washington.
Scotty Battin and Brody Whiteman each hit free throws with seconds
remaining to secure the win.
Elijah Pollice lead the Railers JV with 13 points. Brody Whiteman
had 12 points.
The Railers play at Morton tonight with the games being moved up a
half hour earlier again. Start time for the JV game is 5:30 p.m. The
Varsity will start at 7:00 p.m.
