 As part of the program community leaders were invited
to attend the assembly that was defined as a Morning Prayer service.
Community leaders who were in attendance included Representative Tim
Butler, Dr. David Gerlach and Amy Gallagher of Lincoln College,
Lincoln Mayor Seth Goodman and City Administrator Beth Kavelman,
Lincoln Police Chief Paul Adams and Officer Michael Fruge, Logan
County substitute teacher Adrienne Klockenga, and Lincoln Park
District Program Coordinator Jaylee Swinford.
The morning began with Principal David Welch calling
everyone to attention and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance
to the Flag.
For this part of the day, the first and second grade
students at the school unfurled a large American flag and carried it
to the center of the gymnasium.
After the pledge, Principal Welch asked all the guests to introduce
themselves and then said that all the guests lived their lives in
the service of others. He said that they should be thanked for all
they do and the student body then gave them a round of applause.
Father Jeffery Laible was called upon to offer the morning prayer
with assistance from eighth grade student council members Ella
Singleton, Isabella Prather, Zoey Peacock, Marie Van and Julianna
Craig.
The group participated in individual readings that emphasized the
role of their school in the community, the role of the school for
the students and the teaching that includes spiritual learning with
a focus on showing love, joy and kindness to all.
After the readings, Father Laible concluded the prayer and Principal
Welch introduced Mayor Seth Goodman.
Goodman had with him a proclamation for Catholic Schools Week in
Lincoln approved by the Lincoln City Council. Goodman asked for a
volunteer from the student body to assist in the reading of the
proclamation. Adrianna Mahler came forward to read the body of the
proclamation, and Mayor Goodman read the final declaration.
Representative Tim Butler also delivered a
proclamation from the state. Both Goodman and Butler presented
certificates reflecting the respective proclamations to Principal
Welch.
With the Morning Prayer Service concluded, the guests were
encouraged to stay and join the students for their lunch break and
then classes dismissed.
As part of showing appreciation for their school, the eighth grade
students were encouraged to write notes of gratitude to their
school.
Below are those notes:
I am thankful that I actually got to come to this school and be a
part of this wonderful community. It is amazing that the staff is so
caring and they sacrifice their time to help out this school. I am
also thankful for the effort my parents did to get me into this
school. I am glad that they got me into this school because I would
never have had these many great memories and great friends that I
have made.
Leyah Boettcher

Carroll Catholic School has been my second home since
2008 when I started preschool. The education I have received at
Carroll Catholic has had a wide variety of specialized subjects with
teachers who excel at them. Mr. Welch is not only my principal but a
teacher, a scholastic bowl coach, and a great role model. A special
thanks to all to coaches (basketball, cheer, chess, speech, track,
and volleyball) that have coached me throughout my years at Carroll
Catholic. I thank my parents for sending me to Carroll Catholic as a
better choice in education. I know this is a big sacrifice because
they sent my brother and me here. As an active Catholic having
religion once a day and attending the Children’s Mass weekly has
helped me to grow in my faith. I also thank the parishioners for all
their support they have given and will continue to give the school.
I am looking forward to seeing how Carroll Catholic will continue to
grow and change.

Carroll Catholic is a place with the best teachers in
Logan County. The teachers have in-depth knowledge. The teachers
here have a human element to them and they actually care about our
well-being and experience here at school. They all have a sense of
humor which is nice because we are with them for half of the year. I
would like to thank all the teachers and staff for making my time
here enjoyable. I would also like to thank my parents for sending me
here.

Thank you for letting me spend my younger years here.
I have met so many new people and they are the people I will know
for the rest of my life. In fact, I met my best friend here at
Carroll. I would also like to thank my teachers and parents for
helping me learn new things in different subjects and aspects of
life. You all have been a great deal of help to me. I have learned
so much here at Carroll especially about the Catholic faith. My
coaches and my teammates are also a huge part of what made me who I
am. They all tell me to push harder and keep going even when I am
tired and they are so right. I would also like to thank my parents
for sending me here because it made me a better person. My years at
Carroll may be over but I will always have the memories.

There are so many reasons I love Carroll Catholic
School! The education is really good here and the teachers are
really amazing. The sports coaches are some of the most supportive,
but hard-working people I have met. I am so thankful that my mom and
dad sent me here because I have made so many friends. I really love
it here at CCS, and I would just love to thank the parishioners for
all the work they do!
Zoey Peacock

I am really thankful for Carroll Catholic School for
many reasons. I am thankful because there are really good teachers
here that are very supportive, and they are super nice and
understanding. I am also thankful to my mom for sending me here. I
have met amazing friends, have great teachers, and a very good
principal and secretary. I have also had amazing coaches for sports
to and it is really enjoyable being involved in them. And lastly, I
want to thank the parishioners for all of the support here. I am
very thankful for everything CCS has done for me.
Isabella Prather

My favorite part of Carroll Catholic School is the
Scholastic Bowl team. It is very fun, and it gives me the
opportunity to learn new things. It also gives me an outlet to share
all the information I have. Last year, I won the award for Most
Points Scored, with 650. I felt so proud, and all of my teammates
congratulated me and accepted me into the SchoBo community. This is
why Scholastic Bowl is my favorite part of Carroll Catholic School.
A special thanks to my parents and the parishioners for all of their
support throughout my time here at Carroll. The education I have
received here is invaluable, and I am very grateful for it.

for teaching me about the Lord. Thank you for teaching me what is
right and what is wrong. You have definitely made a huge impact on

I love Carroll Catholic School so much because you
learn so much and you also get to meet so many nice people here too.
I also love the Catholic Schools Week. You get to roller skate and
there are days where you can wear all kinds of cool stuff like you
can wear pajamas on pajama day. At the end of the school year, you
get to go on a school field trip to Six Flags and the Cathedral in
St. Louis. Thank you to the parishioners for helping support Carroll
Catholic School.

My love for my education at Carroll Catholic School
is huge. I came here in 1st grade, and I had no idea how to speak
English at all, and I also really didn’t know how to do anything. I
could call myself lucky now since I now know how to do 1 + 1. If my
parents actually didn’t send me to this school, I probably wouldn’t
even know how to acquire any knowledge, or be able to meet any of my
pretty great classmates/friends, that I have now. I’m super thankful
for my parents, for the sacrifices that they’ve made for me, so that
I could go to Carroll Catholic School to learn and have fun. I also
thank the parishioners for their support to CCS, and I’m also super
thankful for what everybody has done so that everybody could have a
great time at CCS.

Students will enjoy a number of special events
throughout this week including special dress-up or dress down days
and special activities.
As another point of interest, Carroll Catholic School opened its
doors in Lincoln in the fall of 1961 and will celebrate its 60th
anniversary next year.
