The tournament is scheduled for July 13-19 in
the German capital, with world No. 3 Dominic Thiem of Austria
headlining the men's draw.
"Time is extremely short, but we will do everything we can to
find possible last-minute options," tournament organizer Edwin
Weindorfer said of finding replacements.
Zverev, 23, said he was disappointed to miss an event in his
native country.
"I have made the decision to stay put and train with my team and
not plan any tournaments at the moment," he wrote on social
media. "It's never nice to miss the chance to play at home, but
I will be back soon."
Zverev came under fire last month when videos surfaced of him
dancing in a crowded nightclub just days after pledging to
self-isolate after a coronavirus scare. Kyrgios called Zverev's
actions "selfish."
Kyrgios, 25, cited concerns about traveling from his home in
Australia, where the COVID-19 pandemic has seen a recent surge.
