Heartland Trustee Chadwick begins term as ICCTA President

 

[July 12, 2020]    Heartland Community College District 540 Board of Trustees Chair Gregg Chadwick will be serving as the President of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Chadwick took office on July 1 along with other officers Vice President Jon Looney (Black Hawk College), Vice Secretary Dr. Maureen Dunne (College of DuPage), and Treasurer Mandy Little (John A. Logan College). ICCTA officers serve a term of one year.

“There are so many experiences with the Heartland board that will help me during the upcoming year,” said Chadwick. “Heartland, like all other community colleges in Illinois, brings a unique perspective to the association, where challenges and successes can be shared. Ultimately, the work of the association must support our students’ achievement of their goals. Because this is such a strong focus at Heartland, I find my experience to be extremely helpful.”

Chadwick looks to bring the knowledge of each of the regional boards, including elected student representatives, to the forefront during the upcoming academic year.

“I think the biggest impact the ICCTA has is its focus on trustee education,” said Chadwick. “The executive committee will meet in August to finalize goals and plans for the 2020-2021 year. Personally, I want to continue to find ways to engage trustees in professional education, and to use the impact of the 200-plus trustees represented by ICCTA in promoting state- and nation-wide initiatives. I also am hoping to increase the interaction between the elected trustees and the student trustees.” 

Chadwick has served on the HCC Board of Trustees since 2002 and was elected Chair of the Board in 2009. He has served the ICCTA in previous roles, including Treasurer (2009-2010), Chair of the Government Relations and Public Policy Committee (2017-2019), and as Vice President (2019-2020). Chadwick was also an associate member of the Association of Community College Trustees' (ACCT) public policy committee from 2007-2008, and is currently serving on the ACCT Central Region Awards Committee. He has represented the HCC Board of Trustees on three trips to China, in 2008, 2012, and 2017.

Chadwick serves as Chief Operating Officer at Marcfirst in Normal, an agency that provides residential, employment, and training services to adults with emotional and intellectual disabilities, as well as therapy and early intervention services to children who experience developmental delays. He and his wife, Robyn Walter, live in Bloomington.
