Larry Michael, the longtime
voice of the Washington NFL team and a member of the front office,
announced his retirement Wednesday after 16 years.
Michael was the lead play-by-play announcer for the club since 2004
after replacing Frank Herzog.
"After 16 great years my time with the organization is over,"
Michael said in a statement. "As of today I'll be retiring from my
position with the team. As a lifelong Washingtonian I was blessed to
work with a lot of great people. I want to thank everyone who
contributed over the years. I'm especially grateful to (team owner)
Dan Snyder for giving me the opportunity. On to the next chapter."
The team did not issue a comment on Michael's retirement.
Michael's departure is the third in less than a week after the
organization fired director of pro personnel Alex Santos and
assistant director of pro personnel Richard Mann II on Saturday.

On Wednesday, the team promoted Jeff Scott to assistant director of
pro scouting and advance coordinator, Mann's former role.
Michael also served as the chief content officer and senior vice
president overseeing production of all video content and television
shows for the organization.
The franchise announced Monday that it is dropping Redskins as the
team's nickname after 87 years.
