The defensive end and the team agreed to a
contract extension that includes the most guaranteed money ever
for an NFL defensive player, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported
Tuesday.
Bosa's five-year, $135 million extension features $102 million
guaranteed, including $78 million fully guaranteed at signing,
per Schefter.
The extension will kick in after Bosa's rookie contract that
runs through 2020, a year in which he is set to make $14.4
million.
Bosa is the first player ever to land a nine-figure contract
from the Chargers, according to ESPN.
Bosa, 25, has 40 career sacks in 51 games (49 starts) since the
Chargers made him the third overall pick in the 2016 draft out
of Ohio State. He logged 11.5 sacks and one forced fumble while
starting all 16 games last year, and received his second Pro
Bowl selection.
The Chargers, coming off a 5-11 season, had veterans report to
camp Tuesday for COVID-19 tests. The team is scheduled to open
the season Sept. 13 at Cincinnati.
