Yesterday at the State Farm Center me and a sold out arena of fans
were treated to an entertaining college basketball game eventually
won by the men in orange, 67-66. And really in life is there
anything better than a 1-point win over Indiana?
I’m making it sound kind of ho-hum but it was anything but.
Ayo led the way once again w 17 points and Andres Feliz made shots
[15 points], got rebounds[7], and may have parked cars and sold
tickets and concessions for all I know! He is the most ubiquitous
player in the country. He came up with the steal & the loose ball of
the year on Sunday afternoon. And Kofi Cockburn tried to end the
debate for the BT Freshman of the Year by turning in a 2nd half that
we hope got every media outlet’s attention. He finished w 15 points,
7 rebounds and 6 blocked shots!
Giorgi Bezhanishvili also had a big game with 6 points, 6 rebounds
and a great defensive game as well. Da’Monte Williams had 7 early
points that proved pivotal as well. Illinois limited Indiana to 40%
shooting though the Hoosiers threw in some circus 3-point shots. The
Illini also forced IU into ten turnovers while committing a season
low 7 turnovers themselves. [to top of second column] |

With the win Illinois moved their record to 20-9, 12-6. The 12
league victories are the most since the 2005 team went 15-1 and
ended up playing on championship Monday night in the National
Title game.

Next up for Illinois is a road trip to Ohio State on Thursday.
Then the Illini will host Iowa on Sunday for Senior Day. [By JEFF MAYFIELD]
