Dear Editor:
In 2004 the voters elected Bob Thomas to the office of Logan County
Coroner. Through my service on the Logan County Board, I have had
the privilege of working with Bob as our Coroner and getting to know
him as a person. Suffice it to say, Bob Thomas set the gold standard
of what a public official should be.
Knowing Bob as I do, he would be the first to say he did not do it
alone. The office has been assisted by several Deputy Coroners, one
of whom has been Chris Sprague.
Bob and Chris are reserved and modest men. I have never heard either
of them call attention to their success stories. However, there have
been many. They perform their duties with efficiency and compassion,
stay within their budget and appear to work very well with other
departments in the emergency response community.

It is my understanding that Bob Thomas has
endorsed Chris Sprague to succeed him as the next Coroner. I agree
with Bob's assessment about who best can run this office and I too
will be voting for Chris Sprague. These local offices, whether it is
the Coroner, County Board or others, function best when there is a
continuity of policy and consistency of practice. I have no doubt
that if Chris Sprague is elected Coroner all the good that Bob
Thomas has done will be continued into the future.
Respectfully,
David Hepler
