The Logan County All Hazards Mitigation Plan outlining projects and activities to prevent injuries, fatalities and property damage from severe storms and other types of natural hazards will be available for review at a public forum on Thursday, March 26th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Logan County Safety Complex’s Blue Room, 911 Pekin Street, in Lincoln. Members from the Logan County All Hazards Mitigation Planning Committee will be available to discuss this Plan.

“Individuals can come and go at their convenience to review and comment on the draft Plan update. If someone only has a few minutes to review the Plan, ask a question, or provide a comment, they can do so at any time during the forum. This forum is designed to accommodate busy schedules. Unlike some conventional meetings, there are no formal presentations forcing attendees to wait before they can speak,” according to Kendall Caruthers, Logan County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator.

Over 100 projects and activities were identified to protect Logan County residents and property from severe storms and other natural disasters. This Plan, unlike other emergency plans, is aimed at identifying projects and activities that can be taken before a natural disaster occurs. This Committee has been conducting working meetings open to the public since October 2019.

The municipalities of Atlanta, Broadwell, Elkhart, Emden, Hartsburg, Lincoln, and Mount Pulaski, in addition to the County, Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District, LESD #27 and Lincoln College, have been participating in the planning process.

“Committee members helped identify projects that reflect the specific needs of each participating jurisdiction. Storm damage information was used to develop specific suggestions for potential projects that can reduce harm to people and property within the County,” added Caruthers.

The public comment period will remain open until Friday, April 3rd. Comments can be directed to the Logan County Emergency Management Agency. Following the public comment period, any revisions that are needed will be made before the Plan update is submitted to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency for approval.
