To the editor:
The Logan County Courthouse, that was erected in
1905, is considered one of the top architecturally impressive,
historic courthouses in Illinois. This unique dome structure has
served the court system, citizens, and tourists well for many years
and only adds to the rich history within our county.
The Logan County Tourism Board of Directors strongly supports the
referendum that will be on the ballet on March 17, 2020. It is a
referendum to raise local sales tax by $0.50 on every $100 of
eligible purchases (medicine and food not included) spent by
residents and visitors in our county. This money would be used for
repairs and maintenance that need to be completed for this
historical landmark to continue to serve this community and attract
downtown visitors.

It is hard to imagine this ionic landmark
continuing to deteriorate and not be a functional courthouse. Not
only does this active courthouse serve our judicial system, but it
also enhances and increases traffic to our downtown businesses.
We believe the restoration of this historic monument will only help
tourism flourish within Lincoln and Logan County.
