Alzheimer's Association supporting #GIVINGTUESDAYNOW in global day of giving and unity during pandemic

The Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter is proud to join with individuals and groups around the country and the world to support #GivingTuesdayNow on May 5.

Traditionally held on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday is designed to drive generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation and support for communities and nonprofits around the world. In wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers of the annual event are designating May 5 as #GivingTuesdayNow – a timely additional opportunity for individuals and groups to support non-profit organizations hit hard by the current crisis.

Throughout the current COVID-19 crisis, the Alzheimer’s Association continues to support individuals and families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. The Association quickly transitioned to online and virtual platforms to deliver educational programs, support groups and other critical services, including its 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900), to support families in need. In addition, the Alzheimer’s Association has been engaged in new efforts to respond to the current pandemic, including tips to help caregivers navigate COVID-19 and offering new guidance to help non-clinical staff in nursing homes, assisted living and other community-based facilities provide high-quality dementia care in wake of widespread staff shortages in these settings.

“We hope #GivingTuesdayNow will inspire people to support the work of the Alzheimer’s Association so that we can continue our important work on behalf of more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, including the 230,000 here in Illinois,” said Patrick Reedy, Executive Director for the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter.

“Whether it’s helping a family impacted by Alzheimer’s, volunteering to support the delivery of our programs, or making a donation to help the Alzheimer’s Association continue its important work during the current pandemic and beyond; there is a role everyone can play in the fight against Alzheimer’s.”
