The Easterseals Hero Walk celebrates milestones and progress made by
children at Easterseals. This week-long, virtual celebration
replaces the annual Easterseals Hero Walk (formerly known as Walk
With Me) at Illinois State University’s Hancock Stadium which is not
possible this year due to the pandemic.
“Our community is filled with heroes, and that includes the
Easterseals children who work hard in therapy throughout the year,”
said Cathy Oloffson, vice president of development in
Bloomington-Normal. “They deserve to be recognized and celebrated,
and this virtual event does exactly that. The event also gives the
community an opportunity to connect with others for a common goal
during a time when it’s been hard to do so.”
On June 1 Easterseals Heroes will be given a Box of Fun filled with
activities for them to enjoy throughout the week. These daily
activities will celebrate progress made during the past year. Hero
families will share their stories on social media, and Easterseals
will promote them throughout the week.
The public can participate in the Hero Walk by registering for the
event, creating teams and raising funds for the children at
Easterseals. Community teams will be paired with Easterseals Heroes
and invited to participate the week’s events.

For a complete timeline, visit esci.link/herowalk. The week-long event will
culminate in a virtual Zoom meeting followed by honk parades in Easterseals Hero
neighborhoods on Sat., June 6.
Throughout the pandemic, Easterseals Central Illinois therapists have been
serving children and families over the phone and creating resources for their
use during the stay-at-home order. On April 8, Easterseals launched Telehealth
therapy services, ensuring therapists and care coordinators are available to
families via live video. By registering and fundraising for Virtual Hero Walk,
community members directly impact the lives of the children and families served
by Easterseals.
Register now at esci.link/herowalk. Registrations is $25 per person. Easterseals
Heroes and their families (two adults & four children) participate for free. All
proceeds from this event benefit Easterseals Central Illinois.
