The Lincoln Community High School Class of 1992 has established the
Debra L. Bree Memorial Scholarship.
The annual award will provide financial aid to graduating LCHS
seniors who demonstrate a desire to help victims of child abuse and
neglect. The scholarship honors the memory and professional legacy
of Lincoln native Debra (Debbie) Bree, who died in August 2020 after
a courageous two-year battle with colon cancer.
Bree was the daughter of Bill and Pat Bree of Lincoln. She attended
Chester-East Lincoln School and graduated from Lincoln Community
High School in 1992. She continued her education at Illinois State
University and earned her Juris Doctor from DePaul University
College of Law. In 2000, Bree joined the Kane County State’s
Attorney’s Office and in 2012 was named the executive director of
the Kane County Child Advocacy Center. She devoted her entire career
to protecting, defending and advocating for children and victims’
rights.
The Debra L. Bree Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Lincoln
Community High School graduating senior of high moral character and
in the upper one-half of the graduating class.
