Wolff held the 54-hole lead in both previous
pairings, only to watch DeChambeau overtake him by six shots on
Sunday at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and by eight shots in the
final round of the U.S. Open.
Both are returning to competition for the first time since
Winged Foot.
DeChambeau won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in 2018
while Wolff finished T18 in his lone previous start in the event
last year. They'll be joined for the first two rounds at TPC
Summerlin in Las Vegas by Cameron Champ.
Another featured pairing includes defending champion Kevin Na
and Patrick Cantlay, who won the event in 2017 and finished
runner-up each of the past two years, including in a playoff to
Na last year.
The third member of that group is Rickie Fowler, who has made
the cut in each of his four previous appearances. Fowler has
three times as many missed cuts (six) than top-20s (two) in his
past 13 starts dating back to January.
No. 5 Collin Morikawa and No. 7 Webb Simpson join No. 6
DeChambeau as the trio of top-10 players in this week's field.
Morikawa is a Las Vegas resident who finished T42 in last year's
event, while Simpson is coming off a T8 at the U.S. Open and won
the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in 2013. They are
paired together for the first two rounds with Joaquin Niemann.
The fourth featured pairing includes Sergio Garcia, coming off
his first victory since the 2017 Masters, Jason Day and Hideki
Matsuyama. Day is in the Shriners field for the first time since
2012 as he seeks his first win in 2018. Matsuyama has not won
since 2017, but enters ranked No. 19 and with three consecutive
top-20 finishes.
