Now is the time to purchase winter squash, including butternut,
acorn, spaghetti, hubbard, delicata and buttercup, at farmers
markets and grocery stores. Winter squash are often eaten as a side
dish flavored with salt and butter, cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg
or basil or sweetened with brown sugar, maple syrup or honey.
Winter squash’s dense texture allows it to hold up well in soups,
stews and casseroles. The flesh can also be used in pies, muffins
and cakes.

Properly cured and stored squash should remain in good condition for several
months. Acorn squash can be stored for up to 2 months, butternut up to 3 months,
and hubbard up to 6 months.
This fall, be sure to try one of these flavorful fruits.
