Janet Bruns, 79 of Taylorville, passed away, surrounded by her
family, at 7:19 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2020 at St. John’s
Hospital in Springfield.

Martha Janet Bruns, 79 of
Taylorville, passed away, surrounded by her family,
at 7:19 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2020 at St.
John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born on November 1, 1940 in Mattoon, the
daughter of Lester and Mildred (Young) Wickline. She
married Larry M. Bruns on June 20, 1981 in
Morrisonville.
Janet worked as a nurse at St. Vincent Memorial
Hospital before working for the State of Illinois
and retiring from the Department of Natural
Resources. She was a dedicated member of the Trinity
Lutheran Church, LCMS, in Taylorville. Janet served
as a pianist and organist for the Presbyterian and
Lutheran churches playing for services, weddings,
and funerals for over 30 years as well as sharing
her vocal gifts as part of the choir.
She was a long-time member of the Peter Meyer
Chapter of the DAR where she previously served as
president. She loved spending time outdoors while
camping and working in her garden and canning the
produce she grew. Janet enjoyed crossword puzzles
and getting her nails done with her daughter Lisa,
time she always treasured. Most of all she loved her
family, especially spending time with her
grandchildren.
Janet is survived by her husband: Larry Bruns of
Taylorville; children: Lisa Slater (Michael) of
Sherman, David Bruns (Chris) and Todd Bruns both of
Taylorville; grandchildren: Melisa Rock (Josh),
Kelli Anderson, Kayla Bruns (Anthony Forehand),
Andrew Slater (Ceelyn), Hailey Bruns, and Levi
Slater; great grandchildren: Landan Tribble,
Kaydence Mesecher, Julian Wilson, and Emma Rock;
siblings: Jane Thompson and Galen Wickline (Brenda)
both of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter:
Darla Janette Cramer.
Graveside service for Janet were held on Monday,
September 21, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery Home in
Taylorville with Pastor Rodney Blomquist
officiating. |
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran
Church or the St. Louis Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville
