[October 12, 2020]    The Chicago Blackhawks have pivoted toward a rebuilding mode in recent days as they said goodbye to goaltender Corey Crawford and traded forward Brandon Saad.

Not everyone is on board with the moves. Namely, captain Jonathan Toews, who vented his frustrations during an interview with The Athletic.

"Bottom line is, I want to win," Toews told the publication. ""The expectation for the other leaders on this team and myself is to come ready to training camp every year to be a playoff team. We prepare ourselves to win a Cup for our fans.

"I've never been told that we were going through a rebuild. That has never been communicated to me, for that matter. A lot of this comes as a shock because it's a completely different direction than we expected."

Toews, 32, is a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Blackhawks. He has 815 career points (345 goals, 470 assists) in 943 games.

Crawford had been Toews' teammate for more than a decade, but the team announced last week that it would not try to re-sign him in free agency. The veteran netminder instead agreed to a two-year deal with the New Jersey Devils.

The Blackhawks continued their roster shuffle by trading Saad and defenseman Dennis Gilbert to the Colorado Avalanche. Saad spent seven seasons with the Blackhawks, tallying 114 goals in 428 games with the franchise.
