Rt. 136 crash on Monday afternoon results in one fatality

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police
District 9

WHAT: Two Unit Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE: US Route136 just west of Interstate 155, Logan County

WHEN: Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, 3:04 p.m.

VEHICLE(S):

Unit 1: Gray 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Unit 2: Black 1992 Mack Truck Tractor, pulling a 1999 Landoll Trailer

DRIVER(S):

Unit 1: 46-year-old male of Green Valley, IL (Deceased)

Unit 2: Kirk G. Chapman, 47-year-old male of Collinsville, IL

PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 2 was stopped in a construction zone on US Route 136 just west of Interstate 155. Unit 1 was eastbound on US Route 136 at the same location. For unknown reasons, the driver of Unit 1 failed to stop and struck the rear of a flatbed semi-trailer being towed by Unit 2. The driver of Unit 1 was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Logan County Coroner.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
