[September 27, 2020]  LINCOLN - Wayne Armstrong, 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at his home with his wife Barbara and daughter Sarah holding his hands.

Visitation:  4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln

Service:  10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Jefferson Street Christian Church

Obituary

Wayne Armstrong, 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at his home with his wife Barbara and daughter Sarah holding his hands.

Mr. Armstrong was a professor at Lincoln Christian University from 1955 to 1995. He pastored churches in Minnesota and Illinois, in addition to conducting extended meetings in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee. His last preaching ministry was at the Hartsburg Christian Church, 1975-1989. He has served as elder and teacher at the Jefferson St. Christian Church and also preached a number of years at Friendship Manor in Lincoln.

Wayne was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Minnesota Bible College in 1950. He earned the Master of Theology degree in New Testament from Lincoln Christian Seminary in 1953 and the Master of Divinity degree in Old Testament in 1969. He did further studies at Eden Theological Seminary in 1973-1974. Wayne also traveled to Haiti in 1989, serving by teaching classes on the Old Testament within two locations of the country.

Wayne was born on May 1, 1926 in Little Sioux, Iowa, the youngest of seven children to Joe and Ethel (Kerr) Armstrong. Following the death of his first wife, he married Barbara A. Carey on May 27, 1967. She survives.

Also surviving Wayne are his children: Phillip Wayne (Renee) Armstrong of Portland, Oregon, Sarah Louise Wilson of Elkhart, Deborah Lynn (Ed Jacobs) Armstrong of Tacoma, Washington, and Rebecca Sue (Liang) Li of Lake Villa; four grandchildren: Meagan Blossom, Elizabeth Evans, Daniel Scott, and Jonathan Andrew and one great grandchild: Harris William. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Elizabeth Crabb and Rose Ramsey, and four brothers: Phil, Hugh, Bruce, and Lyle Armstrong.

Services for Wayne will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Jefferson Street Christian Church with Tom Ewald officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, where face mask and social distancing will be enacted. Burial at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln will follow the service.

Memorials may be made in Wayne’s name to Lincoln Christian University or Jefferson Street Christian Church.
