Heartland students James Murphy and Susanne Swope were named to the
All-Illinois Academics by Phi Theta Kappa, the international
two-year college honor society. Team members are chosen from among
community college students across the state on the basis of academic
			achievement, leadership, and service work.
James “Jimmy” Murphy is a current sophomore accounting major from
Bloomington, Illinois. On top of his studies, Jimmy volunteers with
Evans Jr. High School, where he spends time building take-home
lunches. He also helped deliver food to families that attended Cedar
Ridge during the holiday season. He plans to continue his accounting
education at Illinois State University after graduating from
			Heartland this spring.

Susanne “Susie” Swope also hails from Bloomington and graduated from
Heartland in fall 2020 with an Associate of Arts – Concentration in
Psychology. Susie was involved in campus through Heartland’s Game
Club and plans to transfer to ISU, where she’ll pursue her
Bachelor’s degree and continue studying Psychology.

The All-Illinois Academic Team is sponsored annually by Phi Theta
Kappa, USA Today, and the American Association of Community Colleges. It seeks
to honor outstanding community college students who show intellectual rigor in
their course of study, demonstrate academic, leadership, and civic growth and
who extend their community college education to better themselves, their schools
and their communities.
