Lanphier defeats Lincoln 59-15 in Week 2

The Lincoln Railers Football
Team hosted the Lanphier Lions on Saturday afternoon at Handlin
Field with fans in attendance from both teams scattered throughout
the new bleachers.
The Lions would score early in the game with Tierre Butler scoring
the first touchdown, a 24-yard run. The Lions were in front 6-0. A
Lincoln safety allowed the Lions to take an 8-0 lead. Lamar Manning
scored the second touchdown of the game, a 35-yard run. After the
extra point was good by Alex Suprenant, the Lions lead was up to
15-0. That lead would stick as the first quarter came to a close.
Lincoln would get on the board for the first time this season early
in the second quarter. A 73-yard pass from Elijah Pollice to Scotty
Battin resulted in Battin breaking loose from the Lions defense and
running in for the touchdown. Angel Haro’s kick for the extra point
was on target and the Railers trailed 15-7.
The Lions would add to their lead in the second quarter with Butler
scoring a 19-yard touchdown at the 8:51 mark. Lanphier’s lead was
now 21-7.
With 5:28 on the clock the Lions’ A’Tejon Lee intercepted a Pollice
pass and returned it for a 76-yard touchdown. The score was now
27-7. At the 4:37 mark Butler scored on a 19-yard run for the Lions.
The two-point conversion was no good but the Lions still held a 33-7
lead.

With 33.5 seconds left in the second quarter, Butler did it again.
This time the 5’10 senior ran the ball in for a 5-yard touchdown.
Again the two-point conversion failed for the Lions but they held a
39-7 halftime lead over the Railers.
The Railers scored first in the third quarter. A 5-yard touchdown by
Daulton Miller on the pass from Pollice made the score 39-13 at the
5:50 mark. Isaac Decker scored on the two-point conversion and the
score was 39-15.
The Lions would score a touchdown and a two-point conversion around
the 4:35 mark and add to their lead. The score at the end of the
third quarter was 47-15.
Lanphier’s offense continued to dominate in the fourth quarter and
the Lions ran away with the 59-15 non-conference win over Lincoln.
Lincoln falls to 0-2 on the season.
Lincoln will host Mahomet-Seymour Saturday, April 3, 2021 in an
Apollo Conference matchup at Handlin Field. Kickoff is scheduled for
2 p.m.
