The Lincoln Railers Football Team lost 42-18
Friday night at Mattoon.
The Green Wave were ahead 15-0 in the first half before Lincoln
scored a point. With 1:18 remaining in the second quarter, the
Railers scored a touchdown on a pass from Elijah Police to Tony
Gandolfi. The one-yard touchdown reception made the score 15-6.
The kick for the extra point was no good for Lincoln and the
score remained 15-6 at halftime.
The Green Wave scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter
and one extra point to stretch the lead to 28-6 over Lincoln.
Scotty Battin scored a 26-yard touchdown on the pass from
Pollice with 6:10 remaining in the third quarter. Lincoln
attempted a two-point conversion but that was incomplete.
The score remained 28-12 in the third quarter until 2:38 was
showing on the clock. The Green Wave scored in the end zone
again and also earned the extra point to make the score 35-12.
Exactly a minute later the Green Wave scored again. The
touchdown and extra point settled the third quarter score at
42-12.
The Railers would score one more time in the game, giving them
three touchdowns on the night. In the fourth quarter, with time
running out, freshman Kion Carson ran the ball in from the
five-yard line off the handoff from Pollice. Carson’s touchdown
settled the final score at 42-18. Because time ran out, there
was no kick for the extra point.
Lincoln falls to 0-5 on the season.
The Railers will host Effingham Friday night at Handlin Field
for the last game of the season.
