The students have planned some local fundraisers to
assist in sending financial aid to South Sudan and have opened a
gofundme account for those wishing to make donations from the
comfort of their home.
To follow is an article the students wrote about South Sudan and
actions the students are taking.
While drinking water, have you ever
had to think about how you will get water for your family or whether
or not the water you drink is safe enough to share with your family?
Over 1.1 billion people do not have access to clean drinking water.
As a 7th grade class at Mt. Pulaski Grade School, we read a true
story called “A Long Walk To Water” by Linda Sue Park about the
water crisis in Africa, particularly in South Sudan . After reading
the novel we learned of the families that have to walk 4-5 miles
often twice a day, just to get clean water to drink. Most of the
ones getting water are kids our age and they are missing a total of
443 million school days each year because they have to make the
trips to water, that is often not safe enough to drink. Our goal is
to help these children and villages have access to water, so more
time can be spent on receiving an education.

We are asking our local communities
to help donate to the cause. The 7th grade class is wanting to raise
$10,000. Our proceeds will go towards sponsoring a new well to be
built, which will help 500-1,000 people in the area, also the
rehabilitation of a well that needs fixed and proper hygiene. With
your help we have a real chance to turn things around.
Below are ways you can donate to help with the cause:
-
GoFundMe Link -gf.me/u/zqvzry or
find the link on our school website.
-
2nd Friday Market, May 14th from
5-8 in Mt. Pulaski (Selling water/soda, 50/50 Raffle, Silent
auction)
-
Check donations made out to MPGS,
indicating “Water Fundraiser” in the memo.
**All proceeds will go to the
WaterforSouthSudan.org project.
Thank you for your help,
