Obituary
Donald Edward Fink, 94, of Lincoln,
passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
Don was born October 19, 1926 in Kenney, the son of
Carl and Fern (Coppenbarger) Fink. He was the eldest
son of five boys. Don was a graduate of Beason High
School in 1944.
Don enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was discharged
in 1946. He was a WWII veteran and took the Honor
Flight to Washington D.C. in 2011. He married
Dorothy Bender on September 16, 1951.
He was in the building industry for 47 years. A
member of the Beason Church Building Committee; past
member of the Beason Volunteer Fire Department; Past
member of Beason/Chestnut Water Department. Don was
the first auditor of Oran Township Board. Don was
Post Commander of Beason/Chestnut Legion POST 848
for 10 years.
Don was the proud Scout Master for troop 124 in
Beason for 10 years, during that period with his
help the troop turned out 7 Eagle Scouts.
Don retired in 1997. He spent 10 years with the
Lincoln/Logan Food Pantry. Don was a member of
Volunteers for “Together for Lincoln”. This group of
men built 32 handicap ramps. He was a Mission
Volunteer for 10 years at Henderson Settlement in
Frakes, Kentucky. Member of First United Methodist
Church, Lincoln, IL. Don was also an avid St. Louis
Cardinals fan. |
Don is survived by his wife Dorothy,
daughter Donna (Steve) Eimer, and son Doug Fink. Two
grandsons Eric (Erica) Eimer and Aaron Eimer. He was
also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Annily
and Roscoe Eimer; and brother Richard (Virginia)
Fink.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and three
brothers, Frances, Kenneth, and Robert (Barbara)
Fink.
Services for Donald will be held at 2:00 p.m. on
Friday, April 30, 2021 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Rev. Larry Maffett
officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to
7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Burial will follow the services at New Union
Cemetery, Lincoln, where full military rites will be
accorded by Lincoln American Legion Post #263.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
Lincoln American Legion Post # 263 or the First
United Methodist of Lincoln.
