While many consider the first day of the Logan County Fair to occur on a Sunday when the Downstate Classic Harness Races start, the official first-day ribbon-cutting ceremony has always been held on Tuesday.

Tuesday is the day when Tinsley Amusements begins offering carnival rides and games. Food vendors are set up on the mid-way, displays are set up in the multiple exhibit barns, and the Logan County Fair Queen, Junior Miss, and Little Miss crowned in the previous year place crowns on a new royal court at the end of the evening.

This week marks the 85th anniversary of the Logan County Fair. There was a large turnout for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the west gate of the fairgrounds. Several board members accompanied Logan County Fair Association President Kevin Kurtz, members of Logan County and city of Lincoln governments behind the ribbon.

Kurtz addressed the group, as did Logan County native Senator Sally Turner and Lincoln Mayor Tracy Welch.

On hand were some of the 2021 queen candidates. Turner recalled that it was possibly in 1978 that she was a contestant and won Miss Congeniality.

Also in attendance were the Logan County Tourism Bureau Executive Director Alice Roate and Administrative Assistant Cindy Smith, and Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District members. Roate, new to her position, assisted Lincoln Daily News' Karen Hargis in holding the ribbon for the cut.

When speakers were finished, it was time to cut the ribbon on the 2021 Logan County Fair. With much excitement, 2020 Miss Logan County Fair Queen Faith Doerr did the honors.
