[August 09, 2021]   LINCOLN - The Logan County Arts group will open their upcoming “Just Imagine” exhibition with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 12 at the Lincoln Arts Institute, 112 S. McLean St, Lincoln.

The gallery will also be open on Friday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. throughout the month, with exhibiting artists on hand to discuss the works. All events will follow the most recent Logan County Covid masking guidelines.

The “Just Imagine” theme, which inspires a wide variety of images, palettes and mediums, was chosen because some members will also be contributing to the many categories of the Fine Arts exhibit at the Logan County Fair. As artist Pam Moriearty noted, “Some of us have shown works at the Fair in the past, and we missed having that chance last year. We also have some newer members who will have art at the Fair for the first time. Since the Fair judging is anonymous, we will not mention specific artists now. But, some people who haven’t visited the gallery downtown may see our art at the Fair and decide that they might like to visit the gallery, and vice versa.”

Artworks on view in the gallery will include new paintings in oil or acrylic by Bev Noble, Jan Carleen Villareal, Tony Shuff, and Pam Moriearty, among others. Sharon Sheehan-Fak has created versions of a landscape in both acrylic and watercolor, illustrating how different media affect the mood of a scene.

Randy Washam’s striking photograph reminds the viewer how a child may feel when storms and darkness enter their world. Harold Chapman includes both an oil painting and drawings. When asked about his favorite medium he cites pen and paper, because it is the most hassle-free. He adds, “I had a great art teacher in high school, and I've taken some college drawing classes, but I’ve always drawn since I can remember.”

The artworks will be also available for viewing from noon – 8 pm Friday, August 27 and 10 am – 6 pm Saturday, August 28 during the Balloons over 66 Festival. Also available at the August opening will be information on the September “Black & White with a touch of color” exhibition, a presentation of photography by Mitch Douglas.
