Olympia Excels at the Section 9 FFA Fair

The Olympia FFA Chapter was very well represented at the 2021 Section 9 FFA Fair which was held on August 3rd at the McLean County Fairgrounds.

Olympia FFA member, Tarah Hilt was among the high point individuals overall in the horse division after competing in the halter class, showmanship, English riding, Hunt Seat Equitation, Western Horsemanship, Ranch Horse Pleasure and more.

Senior, Adam Swartzendruber was selected Best of Show with his shop project which he made using a CNC plasma cutting table.

Sophomore, Blake Buatte was selected Grand Champion in poultry (ducks), had champion rabbits, both buck and doe, and showed his market barrow.

Fellow sophomore, Reid Glaser showed both dairy goats and beef cattle.

In the beef barn, Olympia FFA members, Kari and Kyler Simpson, Paige Finchum and Reid Glaser were very successful.

Junior, Paige Finchum placed 2nd and 3rd respectively with her two steers.

In the hog barn, Ethan Davis won Champion Hampshire barrow and won his class of crossbred barrows. Davis stated, “I like the FFA Fair because it’s a lot of fun to compete against other FFA members in our section. There are always a lot of high quality animals at our fair.”

These FFA members work countless hours with their livestock preparing them for the show ring. They also spend a lot of time looking for ways to improve the genetics among their herds. Most of these FFA members will compete at several shows this summer and fall.
