In her
new role, Dr. Sinkiewich will oversee comprehensive curriculum
developments in Heartland’s Liberal Arts and Social Sciences sectors
that prepares students and graduates for academic and professional
success. Responsibilities will include ensuring the effectiveness of
LASS instruction and the advancement of diversity throughout
Heartland’s LASS courses, with the ultimate goal of connecting
Heartland students with opportunities in discovery and positioning
them for a seamless transition into a four-year university or entry
into the workforce.
“I am eager to call Heartland Community College home for the second
half of my academic career,” said Dr. Lynda Sinkiewich. “I’ve always
had a passion for teaching first-generation and working-class
students and it’s a skill and dedication that I see in the work of
community college faculty.”
Dr. Sinkiewich brings to Heartland over 20 years of academic work
experience, having contributed to the success of students at
Southern Vermont College, Westfield State College, Massachusetts
College of Liberal Arts, and the Community College of Vermont.
During which, she has taught over 150 courses, served as an academic
advisor for humanities majors, and advanced multi-tiered assessment
strategies and outcomes.

Having earned a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from Union
Institute & University with focuses in Humanities and Culture and secondary
focuses in Public Policy and Social Justice, Dr. Sinkiewich’s passions and
background align with one of Heartland’s main initiatives: to advance equity,
diversity and inclusion on campus both in and out of the classroom.
“One of my favorite things about HCC so far is the College’s
commitment to fostering lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and responsible
stewards,” continued Dr. Sinkiewich. “Balancing academic excellence with a
commitment to the kind of transformative learning that empowers students
economically, and to do so while acting for the common good, speaks directly to
why I became an educator and what I hope to accomplish with my career in
educational leadership.”
Dr. Sinkiewich will begin at Heartland on September 6, 2021.
