“A Conversation with Cordelia Harvey”

[August 17, 2021]    Cordelia Harvey was a passionate Civil War soldier’s advocate who convinced Abraham Lincoln to establish northern hospitals for soldiers during the Civil War. Her compelling story is highlighted by professional actress and first-person historical interpreter Mary Kababik, who will bring this story to life on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 7 pm on the Looking for Lincoln YouTube and Facebook video channels.

Harvey was the wife of former Wisconsin Governor Louis Harvey who died visiting wounded soldiers near Shiloh during the Civil War. She traveled up and down the Mississippi River visiting Union hospitals and helping thousands of soldiers from Wisconsin and other northern states. During her travels, she became a firm believer for the need for hospitals away from the battlefields and the hot, humid South. She traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with President Lincoln who was opposed to the idea of northern hospitals. Through perseverance and determination, she was able to convince President Lincoln of the merits of northern hospitals.

Viewers can watch and participate in the program for free on August 25, 2021 at 7:00 pm on the Looking for Lincoln Facebook page and YouTube channel. Reservations are not required, and the program is recorded for viewing after the premier.

These programs are free and broadcast live on Looking for Lincoln’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, and will end with a question and answer session with the virtual audience.
