Obituary
Norman D. Hodgdon (Norm), 86, of
Rural Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday July 28th,
2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Norman Hodgdon Celebration of Life, every life
deserves to be celebrated! Join us as we celebrate
the life of Norman Hodgdon on Saturday, September 4,
2021 from 2:00-4:00pm at The Oasis in Lincoln. A
service sharing memories and stories of Norm’s life
will take place at 3:00pm. Memorials may be made in
Norman's name to the American Lung Association or
Central Illinois Veterans Commission for Tiny Homes
in Logan County.
Norm was born April 12, 1935 in Lincoln, IL to Frank
Hodgdon and Neva (Charles) Hodgdon. He married
Lynette (Ketcham) on June 29th 1957. They recently
celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Norm can be remembered for many things, perhaps it
was his vocabulary that could make a sailor blush,
or it could be for his work ethic. He always said
his hobby was work, because he made work out of
everything. Always the workaholic, at one point he
had 3 jobs at one time.
Norm lost his father at a young age and was wild in
his younger years. He told it like it was, and did
not hold back (striking fear in many), but you could
not have asked for a better friend, husband,
provider or father. If you wanted something done,
done now, and done right, Norm was your man. There
was nothing he could not do, leaving his kids to
believe he was the smartest man in the world.
Whatever was thrown at him, be it operating
machinery, fixing vehicles, figuring the square
yards of concrete in his head before you had your
calculator out, or building practically anything, he
could do it. Many hours were spent by one of his
kids searching the internet for the piece to fix
whatever was broken, because few things were NOT
doable or fixable! |
Norman worked for the City of Lincoln
Street and Alley Department for 43 years where he
drove & worked on every piece of heavy equipment
they had, built sidewalks, plowed snow, kept the
streets and sewers clean, and hand dug enough holes
you could fit the city of Lincoln in them. He also
had owned a trash hauling business, driving his ole
green pickup around Lincoln in the wee hours of the
morning picking up trash, prior to heading off to
his job at the city.
Norman enjoyed squirrel hunting (and eating), taking
care of his 5 acres, John Deere tractors, and
planting a garden. He thought he had to feed a small
army with the garden he planted and gave away many
tomatoes, corn, eggplants and peppers over the
years.
He always said his biggest accomplishments was
building his house and barn, and his family. He
would tell all his kids you should not fight;
brothers and sisters are the closet blood to anyone.
Even when you could not get much conversation out of
him, if one of his kids would say "I'm your
favorite", he would say I love you all the same.
Norman is survived by his wife Lynette; son Rocky
Hodgdon of Lincoln; daughters Kim (Ronnie) Frakes of
Beason, Leslie (Todd) Wright of Corinth Texas, and
Missy Hodgdon (John Iocca) of Springfield; 12
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and cousin
Josie (Kenneth) Anderson. He was preceded in death
by his parents, brothers Stanley and Jerry Hodgdon,
and by his sister Delores Bergman.
