Nancy Schaffenacker Rieman, of Fishers, Indiana, passed peacefully at her home on November 25, 2021, surrounded by her husband and three children.

Nancy was born March 31, 1950 in Lincoln to the late Isabel and Wilford Schaffenacker. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Zion Lutheran Church. She graduated as valedictorian from Mount Pulaski High School in 1968 and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in ESL at Indiana University. She married John Rieman on January 26, 1974 in Mount Pulaski.

Nancy’s life-long passion involved teaching others and encouraging a love for learning and reading. She taught in at Zion Lutheran School in 1980s. Nancy and her family relocated to Indianapolis, IN in 1990 where she established the preschool and kindergarten at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She completed her teaching career in Wayne and Warren Townships in Indianapolis before retiring from the classroom in 2012 in order to enjoy the freedom retirement had to offer. She enjoyed traveling, visiting her children, and spending time with her grandchildren and watching them thrive. Nothing meant more to Nancy than being a Mother and Nana.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, her children Derek (Annemarie) Rieman, Geoffrey (Allison) Rieman, and Alicia (Forrest) Packwood; grandchildren, Eliana Packwood, Scarlett Packwood, Isabel Rieman, Caleb Rieman, and Bryant Rieman; sister Carol Nyberg; and brother Dale Schaffenacker. Also surviving are her Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Ed Hickey who were dear to her heart for her entire life.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mount Pulaski, Illinois, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. visitation at the church. Burial will follow at Steenbergen Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. The family asks that donations in Nancy’s honor be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Zion Lutheran School, or Mount Pulaski Library.
