Lincoln College will hold its first Hooding Ceremony for graduate
students Friday, December 10. The formal event marks the first time
since 1919 Lincoln College has honored master’s degree candidates.
Sixteen students from the graduating cohort will be hooded for their
completion of the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership or
Master of Business Administration degrees at the Johnston Center for
Performing Arts at 5:00 p.m. The ceremony is open to the public.
Face coverings are required for admittance.
The institution announced the return of master’s degree options in
2019 as part of ongoing efforts to return to its roots as Lincoln
University. Lincoln College was chartered as Lincoln University and
offered baccalaureate and master’s degrees from 1865-1919. Since
2015, the institution expanded its degree offerings, transitioned to
four-year athletics competing in the National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), remained committed to
affordability via the price match guarantee, and most recently,
announced in-demand online programs.
“Degrees in Business and Organizational Leadership provide a wide
range of career opportunities, preparing Lincoln College students
for success post-graduation,” said David Gerlach, president of
Lincoln College.
Lincoln College’s Master of Business Administration degree prepares
effective leaders in managing organizational resources, and to
function in a socially responsible manner in a diverse,
multicultural business environment. The program culminates in a
final strategic management capstone portfolio project focused on a
real-world organizational problem. A stand-alone degree format is
available to students, and a 4+1 format for current Lincoln College
business students working toward a bachelor’s degree is also
available.

The 4+1 format, Gerlach explained, enables students to complete one year of
graduate studies, saving students significant money. With Lincoln College
already the most affordable private college in Illinois comparable to public
four-year colleges, the 4+1 option further enhances the value proposition for
students.
Lincoln College’s Master of Science in Organizational Leadership is designed to
evaluate and analyze the complex understandings of leadership and organization,
strategic decision making, leading change in an organization, motivating
employees, and advancing culture within an organization. Students develop the
skills associated with these themes and cultivate interpersonal skills central
to effective leadership across a range of organizations and disciplines. The
curriculum culminates in an action-research thesis with implementable
recommendations in a realistic organizational setting.
Classes are offered in an 8-week accelerated hybrid format with one night a week
face-to-face and online components that provide convenience and flexibility for
working adults. Lincoln College will offer fully online graduate programs
beginning in Fall 2022.
“The entire Lincoln College community shares in congratulating the newest cohort
of master’s degree candidates and look forward with anticipation to the 2022
Commencement Ceremony next May,” added Gerlach.
