State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason) issued the following
statement after the Governor signed House Bill 370 into law,
which officially repeals the Parental Notice of Abortion (PNA)
Act of 1995:
"I am truly disappointed in the Governor's decision to repeal
the Parental Notice of Abortion Act.
"The PNA is a fundamental safeguard for young girls who are
still developing both physically and mentally. It ensures that
parents can provide their daughters with love and support during
one of the most difficult times in their young lives.
"This repeal also completely contradicts how the state typically
treats children and young adults, especially when it comes to
their healthcare and healthcare decisions. A minor cannot
receive aspirin from a school nurse without the consent of their
parents. Yet, the Governor just signed a bill which will allow
minors to undergo a very serious medical procedure without their
parents ever knowing.
"The Governor wants to use what is happening nationally to make
a case for why he signed this legislation. But in reality, what
is happening on the national stage gives no justification for
stripping parents of their right to protect their children."
