[December 20, 2021] Lincoln
hosted the Effingham Flaming Hearts on Friday night at Roy S.
Anderson Gymnasium and with a nice crowd on hand, including a
festive Railer Nation cheering all evening long, the Lady Railers
earned a 57-29 victory.
Lincoln was quick to jump out to a 4-0 lead after two quick buckets in
the lane by Imagin Werner. Kloe Froebe extended the lead to 6-0 with her
first field goal of the game. At the 4:20 mark it was Becca Heitzig with
a quick pass into Reese McCuan in the lane, and Lincoln was up 8-2.
McCuan hit another basket with just under three minutes left and the
score was 10-4, Lincoln’s lead. Heitzig closed out the first quarter
scoring for Lincoln with a drive thru the lane and the Lady Railers lead
was 13-9.
Heitzig hit a jumper from the corner to stretch the lead to 15-9 as the
second quarter got underway. Froebe’s drive thru the lane around the
7:20 mark was good and she drew the foul. The three-point play by Froebe
extended the lead to 18-9. At the 6:00 mark it was Heitzig taking the
shot from the top and the ball rolled around and around the rim before
finally dropping through the net and allowing Lincoln to lead 20-9. The
Lady Railers pressure defense was not allowing the Flaming Hearts to get
a decent shot off, let alone even get the ball across the court.
Lincoln’s press without a doubt had the Flaming Hearts rattled. At the
5:00 mark the Flaming Hearts got their only basket of the quarter, but
between Froebe and Heitzig, the Lady Railers kept pouring it on. Froebe
tossed in nine points in the quarter, with Heitzig chipping in eight
points. Add a basket by Tori Geriets, on the assist from Heitzig, and
Lincoln ran to the locker room at half with a 32-11 lead.
Lincoln was all about shooting the long shot in the third quarter.
Froebe hit three 3s in the quarter and Ryen Stoltzenburg swished one
corner three by the Lady Railers bench. The Flaming Hearts did match
Lincoln point-for-point in the third quarter, but the Lady Railers kept
the 21-point lead intact. At the end of three, it was Lincoln with the
46-25 lead.
Froebe tossed in 10 fourth quarter points, including going 6-for-8 from
the free throw line. Lincoln worked hard for the win and it was a brutal
battle from start to finish, but the Lady Railers once again walked away
with a win.
Winning by yet another big margin, the final score was 57-29.
Kloe Froebe led Lincoln with 33 points, tying her lead for the season.
Becca Heitzig turned in a solid performance with 10 points.
