Top 25 roundup: No. 12 Illinois edges Indiana in OT

[February 03, 2021] Trent Frazier scored 16 of his 19 points after halftime as No. 12 Illinois recorded a 75-71 overtime victory over Indiana on Tuesday night in Bloomington, Ind.

The Fighting Illini (12-5, 8-3 Big Ten) followed up their win over No. 8 Iowa on Friday by doing enough to end a seven-game road losing streak at Assembly Hall. Frazier shot 5-for-11 as Illinois won in Bloomington for the first time since January 2010 despite shooting a season-low 38.6 percent.

Illinois' Kofi Cockburn posted his 12th double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Andre Curbelo added 12 points on a night when junior Ayo Dosunmu was held to 10 points on 2-of-11 shooting from the floor before fouling out for the first time in his career.

Trayce Jackson-Davis led Indiana (9-8, 4-6) with 19 points and 14 rebounds, but he shot 6 of 18 and did not hit a basket in the final 11:24. Race Thompson added 18 for Indiana, which shot 40.7 percent and missed 11 of 34 free-throw attempts.

No. 2 Baylor 83, No. 6 Texas 69

Davion Mitchell scored 27 points and Jared Butler added 21 as the Bears turned it on in the second half to run past the Longhorns in Austin, Texas.

The victory allowed Baylor (17-0, 9-0 Big 12) to tie the best start to a season in program history (2011-12). MaCio Teague added 10 points for the Bears, who shot 58.6 percent and forced 17 Texas turnovers. Baylor has won every game this year by eight or more points.

Andrew Jones scored a career-high 25 points for Texas (11-4, 5-3). Matt Coleman III hit for 13 points, Courtney Ramey tallied 12 and Jericho Sims scored 10. The Longhorns have lost three of their past four games, all at home.

No. 8 Iowa 84, Michigan State 78

Luka Garza scored 27 points, including the 2,000th of his career, and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Hawkeyes held off the slumping Spartans in Iowa City.

Jack Nunge contributed 12 points and eight rebounds for Iowa (13-4, 7-3 Big Ten). Joe Toussaint added 10 points and handed out six assists.

Aaron Henry topped Michigan State (8-7, 2-7) with 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Joshua Langford had 15 points but shot 5-for-16 from the field as the Spartans, who were ranked as high as No. 4 earlier this season, dropped their fourth straight.

Ole Miss 52, No. 11 Tennessee 50

Devontae Shuler scored 15 points and the Rebels upset the No. 11 Volunteers in a Southeastern Conference game in Oxford, Miss.

Romello White added 14 points for Ole Miss (9-8, 4-6 SEC), who held Tennessee (12-4, 5-4) without a field goal for more than 12 minutes down the stretch. The Volunteers shot just 35.6 percent from the floor.

Yves Pons scored 13, Keon Johnson added 11 and Josiah-Jordan James had 10 to lead Tennessee.

No. 17 West Virginia 76, Iowa State 72

Derek Culver recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Taz Sherman finished with a game-high 18 points to help the Mountaineers close out a tight victory over the Cyclones in Ames, Iowa.

The Mountaineers (12-5, 5-3 Big 12) bounced back after a disappointing 85-80 home loss to Florida in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Saturday and earned a season sweep of the Cyclones (2-10, 0-7). Sean McNeil and Emmitt Matthews Jr. each finished with 13 points off West Virginia's bench.

Rasir Bolton, Solomon Young and Tyler Harris each had 15 points for Iowa State, which lost its sixth game in a row.

No. 19 Wisconsin 72, Penn State 56

Freshman Jonathan Davis came off the bench and scored a season-high 17 points to lead the Badgers past the Nittany Lions in Madison, Wis.

Wisconsin (14-5, 8-4 Big Ten) didn't have to wait long to earn some payback against Penn State (6-8, 3-7) as it avenged an 81-71 road loss on Saturday. Brad Davison scored 13 points for the Badgers while Micah Potter contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Nittany Lions' Myreon Jones, John Harrar and Izaiah Brockington, who combined for 55 points on Saturday, were held to 14, 10 and eight points, respectively, in the rematch.

No. 23 Kansas 74, Kansas State 51

David McCormack finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 23 Jayhawks overcame their recent swoon and crushed the Wildcats in Lawrence, Kan.

Christian Braun added 18 points for Kansas (12-6, 6-4 Big 12) while Ochai Agbaji chipped in 15 points and Jalen Wilson had 10.

Kansas State (5-14, 1-9) lost its ninth straight and could not get its top scorer, Nijel Pack, untracked after a 26-point performance Saturday against Texas A&M. Pack went 4-for-10 from the field but still shared team-high scoring honors with Mike McGuirl with 10 points.

Maryland 61, No. 24 Purdue 60

Eric Ayala made two key free throws with 3.3 seconds to lift the Terrapins over the Boilermakers in College Park, Md.

Aaron Wiggins scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half and added 11 rebounds as Maryland (10-8, 4-7 Big Ten) recorded its first home conference win in five attempts this season. Ayala scored 16 points and Darryl Morsell added 11.

Purdue's Trevion Williams had a game-high 23 points for his 14th straight double-digit scoring performance. Jaden Ivey had 12 of his 14 points after intermission for the Boilermakers (12-7, 7-5), who fell for just the second time in their past seven games.
