Harold Charles Frederick Jeckel, 88, of Lincoln passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021, at Timber Creek Village in Lincoln.

Harold was born on February 15, 1932 in Emden, the son of Harold B. and Marie (Behrens) Jeckel. He married Janet Kaesebier in 1952, she preceded him in death in 1977. Harold later married Charlene M. Georgi in 1980, she survives in Lincoln.

Harold is also survived by his children, David Jeckel of Springfield and Michelle (Merlin) Horath of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Derek (Scarlett) Jeckel of Springfield, Deven Jeckel of Ventura, CA, Lindsey (D.J.) Maxheimer of Chestnut, and Lacey (Justin) Hott of Lincoln; his brother, Robert (Celia Ann) Jeckel.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janet; his daughter, Sarah; his son, Eric Georgi; his sister, Marilyn Lambert; and a ten-year-old brother: Donald B. Jeckel.

Harold grew up on a farm, where he helped his father raise Black Angus cattle. He graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High School.

After graduating high school, he served in The United States Army where he was promoted to Sergeant in the Tank Division and served time in Korea.

 

Harold was brought up of the Lutheran faith. He attended Sunday School as a child and was confirmed as a member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden. Harold was currently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was very active in the church, serving on the council as well as church treasurer and he also sang in the choir. Harold was also a member of the Lincoln Elks Lodge #914, Lincoln Rotary, and the American Legion Post # 263.

A highlight of Harold’s career was receiving the Senior Life Underwriter Award from his company (then Lutheran Mutual Life). He retired from CUNA Mutual Life Insurance Company in Waverly, IA. He loved to sing, write poetry, read golf, and travel with his wife.

Cremation rites will be accorded by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made in Harold’s name to the Elks Charitable Trust of Lincoln Lodge #914 or the Lincoln Rotary Club.
