The Railers traveled to Teutopolis Tuesday
night and after a low scoring first half, Lincoln was able to
run away with the game in the second half and hand the Wooden
Shoes a 49-34 loss.
Adam Grunder started the game with a three against Teutopolis
that was launched practically from Logan County. Dylan
Singleton’s two baskets in the paint would be the only other
offense for Lincoln in the first quarter. A 7-7 tie was the
result after eight minutes of play.
Singleton put up the first six points for Lincoln in the second
quarter and just like that he reached double-digits and the
Lincoln lead was 13-9. Landon Hullinger’s two free throws put
Lincoln on top 15-11 and that was the end of the second quarter
scoring.
Eiljah Pollice and Brody Whiteman contributed to the offense in
the third quarter. Whiteman in fact made a nice move to hit the
fadaway jumper and then tried his hand at the hook shot. Both
were successful and impressive against the Wooden Shoes defense.
Hullinger’s threes in the third quarter allowed the Railers to
take a 10-point lead at one point. Singleton’s perfect 4-for-4
third quarter performance from the free throw line was also key
as the Railers really began to pull away from Teutopolis. A poor
shooting performance from the Wooden Shoes sure didn’t help
their cause in the third quarter, as they watched the game slip
away. The polished Railers continued to impress as the quarter
came to a close with Grunder throwing up the alley-oop pass to
Hullinger and he finished it off for the jam. Lincoln was making
a statement with a 33-21 lead.
Talking about making a statement, in the fourth quarter it was
Whiteman tossing in eight points en route to another
double-figure performance. Steals and layups wrote the rest of
the fourth quarter story and as time expired the Railers had the
victory in the books, 49-34 the final score.
Dylan Singleton led Lincoln with 20 points. Landon Hullinger and
Brody Whiteman each scored 12 points for the Railers.
Lincoln improves to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the Apollo
Conference.
In the JV contest Teutopolis beat Lincoln 61 to 38. Jake Bivin
and Payton Cook each led Lincoln with 10 points.
The Railers will host New Berlin tonight at Roy S. Anderson
Gymnasium. The JV game will start at 6:00 p.m. The Varsity will
start at 7:30 p.m.
