Trea Turner went 4-for-4 and hit
for the cycle for the third time in his career to lead the host
Washington Nationals to a 15-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on
Wednesday.
Turner's triple in the sixth inning off Michael Wacha made him the
fourth player in the major leagues' modern era (since 1900) to post
three career cycles. Adrian Beltre, Bob Meusel and Babe Herman
accomplished the feat before Turner, who was celebrating his 28th
birthday Wednesday.
While diving into third base for his triple, Turner jammed his left
little finger, and he exited for a pinch hitter an inning later. He
is listed as day-to-day.
Washington's Juan Soto went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Josh Bell went
2-for-3 with three RBIs. Soto was replaced on defense in the ninth
after he was seen grabbing his left hamstring area following his
final at-bat.
Braves 20, Mets 2
Ozzie Albies had five hits, including a pair of home runs, and drove
in seven runs to help Atlanta blow out visiting New York.
Albies was 5-for-6 and scored four runs for Atlanta, which had
scored three or fewer runs in 10 of its previous 11 games. The
Braves had 20 hits, including homers from Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ehire
Adrianza.
The beneficiary was Max Fried (5-4), who returned after 10 days on
the injured list with a blister on his left index finger. He tossed
five innings of two-run ball. Both Mets runs came on Pete Alonso's
first-inning homer.
Cardinals 7, Diamondbacks 4
Pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim hit a two-run double and also earned the
victory as St. Louis defeated visiting Arizona to complete a
three-game sweep.
Kim (2-5) allowed one run on three hits over five innings with three
walks and five strikeouts. Alex Reyes pitched a scoreless ninth
inning for his 20th save in 20 opportunities. Tyler O'Neill and Paul
Goldschmidt each had two doubles among their three hits for the
Cardinals.
Riley Smith (1-4) allowed four runs on seven hits in three innings
for the Diamondbacks, who finished June with a 3-24 record.
Brewers 15, Cubs 7
Milwaukee was down seven runs at home before stepping to the plate.
It did not seem to matter, as the Brewers scored 14 of their own in
the next four innings and swept Chicago.
The Brewers scored one in the bottom of the first frame, five in the
second and eight in the fourth en route to sending the Cubs to their
sixth consecutive loss.
Milwaukee, which has won eight straight, chased Chicago starter Jake
Arrieta in the second after pulling within a run.
Rockies 6, Pirates 2
C.J. Cron homered, Garrett Hampson had four hits and host Colorado
beat Pittsburgh.
Brendan Rodgers had two hits and Raimel Tapia scored twice and stole
a base for the Rockies, who swept the three-game series from the
Pirates.
Bryan Reynolds homered and had two hits and Adam Frazier also had
two hits for Pittsburgh, which managed just 12 hits in the series.
Angels 11, Yankees 8
Jared Walsh hit a game-tying grand slam in the ninth inning against
Aroldis Chapman, and visiting Los Angeles rallied to beat New York.
After two rain delays totaling more than two hours, the Yankees took
an 8-4 lead into the ninth, thanks mostly to scoring seven times in
the first inning against Angels starter Shohei Ohtani.
Walsh belted his second homer of the game, the first grand slam ever
allowed by Chapman, and pinch hitter Luis Rengifo added a two-run
single in the ninth. Phil Gosselin homered earlier for the Angels,
and Brett Gardner went deep for the Yankees.
Orioles 5, Astros 2
Baltimore scored four runs in the first inning, two on a double by
Ryan Mountcastle, and capped a surprising three-game road series
sweep of Houston.
Baltimore entered the series having lost 22 of its past 23 road
games. The Orioles capped the win with Austin Hays' eighth-inning
solo homer off Ryan Hartman, who was making his major league debut.
Tanner Scott (3-3) earned the win, striking out four in 1 2/3
innings. Astros starter Luis Garcia (6-5) took the loss, allowing
four runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts in four
innings.
Mariners 9, Blue Jays 7 (10 innings)
Dylan Moore hit a three-run home run in the top of the 10th inning
and visiting Seattle defeated Toronto in Buffalo.
Kyle Seager and Mitch Haniger each hit two-run homers for the
Mariners, who leveled the three-game series at one win apiece.
Toronto's Lourdes Gurriel Jr. tied the game 6-6 with an
eighth-inning solo homer against Anthony Misiewicz. Gurriel finished
with two hits and three RBIs.

Trent Grisham homered twice, including his first career grand slam,
and drove in five runs as visiting San Diego rallied from an early
four-run hole to beat Cincinnati in a rain-shortened contest.
San Diego starter Joe Musgrove (5-6) lasted just four innings but
was credited with the victory. The Padres won for the 11th time in
12 games and improved to 6-0 this season against the Reds. Home runs
accounted for all seven San Diego runs and four of the five scored

2017.
