The Lincoln Park District kicked off its 2021 Fourth of July weekend
celebration Saturday morning with the return of the Children’s
Parade starting at Scully Park in Lincoln.
Traditionally known as a walking parade, with a few bikes and
wagons, this year was just the opposite.
Of the large number of children participating in the parade, the
vast majority were there on bikes, in wagons, or zipping along on
their scooters.
The day began with children lining up for the judging. The judges
had some difficult decisions to make but took the job quite
seriously. When the parade was over, ending in front of the Lincoln
Park District Recreation Center, winners were announced and children
received prizes.

This year there was only one dog entry, but he was indeed a cutie.

There was also one youngster who chose to make the trek on her
roller skates.

However, those skates proved to be a little less than pleasant, as
the young lady was seen shedding the skates and making the march to
the park district in her stockings.

Among the ones on scooters, surely the tiniest one commanded a lot of attention
for cuteness.
The parade kicked off at 11 a.m. with a fire truck from the Lincoln Fire
Department leading the way.

Following behind the fire truck was Becky Strait, the new director at the
Lincoln Park District.

Strait had a good time at her first parade and water play afterward at the park
district.

She joined in holding hands with children and running under the spray of water
provided by the Lincoln Fire department.
In all, it was a great kick-off to the weekend. All day activities on Sunday
held at the Park District included an afternoon pool party at the aquatic
center, food vendors and music kept visitors happy at the putting greens in the
evening. Then as darkness fell on the golf green, the fireworks offered a grand
finale’ to a grand Fourth of July celebration.
