Taylor's fourth career walk-off RBI drove in Hunter Dozier from
second.
Scott Barlow (3-3) earned the victory after throwing a scoreless
top of the 10th. Ryan Burr (2-1) took the loss.
Salvador Perez's 438-foot home run with one out in the ninth
tied the score off Liam Hendriks, who absorbed his fifth blown
save.
Eloy Jimenez, who returned from a season-long stint on the
injured list Monday, left the game due to right groin tightness.
He previously was sidelined due to a pectoral injury.
Chicago starter Lucas Giolito continued to pitch well against
the Royals in Kansas City. He allowed one run on four hits in
six-plus innings, striking out seven and walking one. He is 5-1
all-time in Kauffman Stadium with a 2.74 ERA. He has thrown a
quality start in eight of his 10 of his starts in Kansas City
and allowed three runs or fewer in all 10 starts.
Royals starter Kris Bubic gave up two runs on five hits in
six-plus innings. He walked one and struck out three.
The Royals chased Giolito with back-to-back doubles starting the
seventh inning from Perez and Jorge Soler. Soler then went to
third on an error by left fielder Andrew Vaughn. Aaron Bummer
came in with no outs and the tying run on third but kept the
Royals in check.
Both starting pitchers cruised through the early innings.
Giolito allowed just a second-inning walk, striking out five in
the first four innings. Bubic was almost as good. He allowed an
infield single in the second and a double in the fourth but
didn't surrender a run in his first four frames.
The White Sox finally got to Bubic in the fifth. He gave up
singles to Andrew Vaughn, Leury Garcia and Danny Mendick. On
Mendick's single up the middle, Vaughn scored, and Taylor's
throw from center field was off-line to Royals catcher Perez,
who threw to second. Whit Merrifield chased Mendick back to
first, allowing Garcia to score as well.
Giolito didn't give up a hit until a two-out Ryan O'Hearn
infield single in the fifth.
