State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason) issued the following
statement after Democrat lawmakers passed a partisan budget:
“I could not in good conscience vote for this year’s budget
proposal. We received the final version of the budget after
midnight, and were given only a couple of hours to review it
before being forced to vote.
“This is not good government. We should not be trying to ram a
budget that spends over $42 billion in the dead of night while
the public sleeps.
“We should not be trying to pass a budget that punishes already
struggling businesses by cutting over $660 million of vitally
needed job-creating incentives and putting them on the hook for
the $5 billion of debt the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund
currently faces.
“The people of Illinois deserve better than this. We need to do
better than this.”
