The Heartland Community College Men’s and
Women’s Soccer teams will be playing for a NJCAA Division II
Championship this spring.
With matching 9-0 records, the Men’s and Women’s Hawks teams
each captured a Region 24 title in May and emerged as winners in
their respective District Championship tournaments. Both Hawks
teams will compete in the National Championship tournaments in
June.
Jovany Macias serves as Head Coach for both the Men’s and
Women’s Soccer teams.
“This has been a special group and both teams have come together
as a family,” said Macias. “The players have shown the necessary
dedication to get to this level from day one. It’s personally
rewarding to see such progress for our soccer programs in such a
short amount of time.”
This is the first national appearance for both programs.
“Coach Macias has transformed the soccer at HCC,” said Heartland
Athletics Director Ryan Knox. “Putting a plan in place both in
classroom and on the field and seeing it to fruition, has made
this difficult year one we can ultimately celebrate.”
The Men’s Hawks Soccer team, ranked #3 in the NJCAA, has only
surrendered five goals throughout the season. They head to the
National Championship Tournament in Wichita, KS June 5-10. The
Women’s Hawks Soccer team is ranked #6 in the NJCAA,
surrendering only three goals all year. They will compete in
Nationals June 4-9 in Evans, GA.
