The Section 9 dairy contest took place at two rural
farms outside of Tremont, and the state contest was a virtual event
this year. For the virtual state contest, participants met in Mr.
Hoffman's classroom to judge classes of cows and heifers that were
shown on a video.
At the Section 9 CDE, Olympia placed 2nd out of 7 teams. Senior
Tyler Miller led the Olympia team placing 3rd overall. The other
team members included: Kassidy Tacket (4th), Shelby Lynch (5th),
Ethan Davis (6th), Nate Olsen (9th), Isabelle Forrest, Tarah Hilt,
Anna Sanders, Brooke Rogers, and Blake Buatte.
At the state dairy judging CDE, the Olympia team placed 9th out of
29 teams. Four FFA members competed in the state CDE. Those who
competed included: Tyler Miller, Ethan Davis, Kassidy Tacket, and
Nate Olsen. Every individual represented Olympia well, but Ty Miller
had the best performance from the Olympia team. He placed 7th
overall. Ty Miller commented, “It was great to be able to judge
in-person at our section contest. Judging cattle on videos is a real
challenge, but we have all had to adapt this year. I’m really proud
of how well our team did at both the Section 9 and State contests!”
